San Miniato and the truffle by bike

Hereabouts you can find truffles of every size and type, depending on the season, and enjoy them on the spot in the local cuisine. Savini is king of the truffles. Among his many records is that of having found the biggest, most valuable truffle in the world. We’ll take the paths around San Miniato with the “truffle seekers” and Savini’s dogs in an out and out truffle hunt. Then we’ll sit down for a full meal including truffles and local wine.
Truffle finger food (truffle sauce, truffle bruschetta, sandwich cream, white spread), dwarf peaches with truffle, fried truffle polenta, pecorino cheese & truffle honey. Biking along the natural park of Feniglia

The program:

You meet your bike and your bike-guide at the La Zonca bathhouse at 9:00, you take a cappuccino and you start your itinerary along the pine grove on the Feniglia sand strip. You will encounter deer and wild boar and pelicans, in total safety, and you can take a swim in one of the wildest areas of this coastline. On your return to Zonca, a fish lunch with local white wine is served on the terrace facing the sea.

Carmignano – Colors and Flavors of Montalbano – cycling along the colors and the flavors of the local olive fields and vineyards, approximately 20 km, a wine break at the winery Pratesi or Capezzana at 2/3 of the itinerary, a very scenic and interesting itinerary, tasting the local culture and food products.
  2. Capezzana – Wine trails and ancient roads – the ancient wine denominations at the Medici family times, approximately 20 Km along the Carmignano vineyards, an historical itinerary devoted to the wine, at the end guided wine tasting at the Tenuta di Capezzana and guided visit to the Wine Museum

Starting from the historical centre of Prato, we cross the town to enter the ancient Cascine di Tavola’s country area, pass nearby the majestic Villa Medicea of Poggio a Caiano and climb up to the beautiful Via Petraia to arrive in Carmignano. After a visit and a break time, we descend towards via Macia to get back to were we started. With tastings in a typical winery in the area.

Day 1 : Florence – Greve in Chianti – 35 km. (8 on dirt roads) – This stage starts with a very easy uphill to Piazzale Michelangelo, one of the most scenic panoramic spots over the city center of Florence from the south. Along the way light lunch at Osteria da Bule. From Florence we’ll be riding ups and downs to Impruneta and then along the Chianti hills to Greve. Tuscan dinner at Casanova with the wine of the area.

Day 2 : Greve in Chianti – San Gimignano – 37 km. (2 on dirt roads) – On the third day we’ll be riding through one of the most beautiful stretches of the Chianti hills area, trough San Donato and Barberino val d’Elsa, before reaching the magic towers of San Gimignano. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Dinner at your own.

Day 3 : San Gimignano – Siena – 43 km. (5 on dirt road) – Today’s itinerary runs along the Vernaccia vienyards to the fortified village of Colle val d’Elsa, the wonderfull Abbadia a Isola Abbey, the Monteriggioni Castle, to Siena. Along the way light lunch in Strove. Farewell dinner at Compagnia dei Vinattieri in Siena.

Day 5: Castellina in Chianti – Castellina in Chianti – 41 km. (21 on dirt roads) – Today’s ride follows a scenic circular loop across the hills of Chianti Classico passing ancient Romanesque churches and Etruscan tombs dating back to more than 2500 years ago. Tuscan dinner at Osteria della Torre.

Day 6: Castellina in Chianti – Greve in Chianti – 33 km. (9 on dirt roads) – Still cycling across the scenic Chianti Classico hills we’ll be visiting the Medieval hamlet of Panzano and the ancient abbey of Badia a Passignano before reaching Greve, the chief town of Chianti. Lunch at Restaurant La Scuderia in Badia a Passignano. Dinner at your own.

Day 7: Greve in Chianti – Florence – 32 km. (all on tarmac) – During the last leg of this bike tour we’ll be biking towards Florence following a very scenic itinerary through the so-called “Chianti Fiorentino”. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Farewell dinner at Restaurant Gastone.
