San Miniato and the Truffle
The woods and hillsides of San Miniato don’t just offer historic monuments, wines and oils of outstanding quality, they also hold a special treasure: truffles. Hereabouts you can find truffles of every size and type, depending on the season, and enjoy them on the spot in the local cuisine. Savini is king of the truffles. Among his many records is that of having found the biggest, most valuable truffle in the world. We’ll take the paths around San Miniato with the “truffle seekers” and Savini’s dogs in an out and out truffle hunt. Then we’ll sit down for a full meal including truffles and local wine.Truffle finger food (truffle sauce, truffle bruschetta, sandwich cream, white spread), dwarf peaches with truffle, fried truffle polenta, pecorino cheese & truffle honey. Spinach/vegetable or potatoes flan with goat cheese and truffle. Risotto with truffle fondue. Tagliolini pasta with truffle butter. Fried eggs or pork escalope with truffle. Truffle surprise!

The program:
- 9:00 Departure from your location by private Mercedes car or van with English-speaking driver
- 10:30 Arrival at Savini’s, short introduction to truffles and suggestions for the truffle hunt
- 11:00 Truffle hunt with the truffle dogs
- 13:00 Lunch with full truffle menu
- 15:00 Visit to the old town centre of San Miniato or, if preferred, to the Tenuta di Poggio estate with tasting of their biodynamic wines
- 18:00 Back to your location
Day trip (09:00-18:30) includes: private air-conditioned Mercedes car or van, English-speaking driver, truffle hunting with lunch, wine tasting in a winery.
Simon, CanadaWe did the Barolo tour in March 2023. Driver Toni and guide Maria were really wonderful. They were on schedule and knowledgeable of the area. The van was very comfortable and they were flexible to pick us up in one village (Torona) and drop us off in another city (Genoa) which really helped our travel logistics. We highly recommend.
